WandsPro® & the War on Waste

Every time you 'CLIP' your crockery together, you've 'SAVED' another single-use plate from landfill!

BREAKING NEWS!

QLD BAN ALL Single-Use PLASTICS  by Sept 2021!

As avid campers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, we were shocked to see so many disposable paper plates going into the bins around campsites, BBQ areas, picnic spots and at the beach. We realised that the throwing away of disposable plates is a global concern and one that is on the rise.

One of the fundamentals of our ClipCroc® range is that it’s reusable. By using reusable plastic crockery when eating outside, we avoid billions of paper, plastic and styrofoam crockery from going into the bin, and most likely landfill. We’ve noticed that a campsite bin can be overflowing with paper plates after just a single weekend, so we’re on a mission to increase the use of reusable plates, bowls, dishes and cups for all of those outside adventures!

Each time you CLIP’, you’ve SAVED another plate from landfill.

ClipCroc® & Sustainability

Long Life Products Built to last:

Wandspro® believe in moving away from single-use plastics; products that do not last, or cannot be recycled. As such ClipCroc® is built strong, durable and designed to last many years of use.

BPA & Melamine Free:

All ClipCroc® products are 100% polycarbonate, PVC, BPA and Melamine free.

Melamine is actually a polymer of melamine and formaldehyde and has been known to leach into food and beverages (especially those that are acidic or warm). Melamine also cannot be recycled so is an end-of-life material, emits a lot of greenhouse CO2 during manufacture, and is known to consume a lot of energy since it is baked at  345°C

Bamboo Free:

Bamboo is widely considered a ‘Greenwash’ solution since it cannot be recycled, gives rise to deforestation (or higher greenhouse gas emissions), uses a lot of energy and water in growing and processing, and is prone to cracking and chipping easily resulting in a shorter life.

In addition, the bamboo dust content is typically less than 30% with the rest being made up of corn starch, fillers, or melamine-formaldehyde which act like glue.

Compostable Materials Free:

Sadly, so-called ‘compostable materials have no environmental benefit since very few commercial composting facilities are available; poor sorting means collection is almost impossible and, since so much greenhouse gases CO2 and methane are released during composting, it is better to bury the waste.

It is far better therefore NOT to create the waste in the first place and to use a reusable solution, like ClipCroc® instead.

Palm Oil Free:

WandsPro® do not support the use of palm oil or other organic based plastics. Although they sound good on paper, in practice Palm oil monoculture is responsible for immense deforestation and animal deaths; vast peatland decimation; increased carbon emissions from transportation and processing & fires and, human rights abuse in poor countries where it is harvested.

If the true environmental cost of palm is factored in with full traceability to source palm oil plastics are significantly more expensive and damaging for the environment.

Case Study 1: Habitat Noosa Eco Camp

In October 2020, WandsPro® were thrilled to partner with the award-winning and hugely popular ‘Habitat Noosa Eco reserve‘ by supplying ClipCroc® to their eco-camping site! Noosa Habitat required reusable, strong, durable, eco-friendly and Australian-made camping tableware for their school camps and we were thrilled to see ClipCroc® as their chosen camping tableware!

Habitat Noosa is one of Australia’s best eco-friendly and environmentally conscious camping sites. By using ‘reusable‘ camping tableware every day on their camping site, NO single-use plastics are thrown into landfill, helping both our environment and ourselves!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in the office

Case Study 2: The Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast

In 2018 WandsPro® partnered with the Innovation Centre of the Sunshine Coast to introduce reusable ClipCroc® into the IC’s shared kitchen. Until now thousands of paper plates were used for meetings, functions and networking events.
It was an easy mission. Simply use a reusable ClipCroc® plate, dish, bowl or cup and put it in the dishwasher after use! Since 2018 the IC have saved 20,000+ paper plates from landfill!
This is a 100% REAL photo of the waste bin in the IC before introducing ClipCroc®. All office workers + event delegates were very happy to use the re-usable ClipCroc® option without a single complaint being made! The IC has PREVENTED at least some of the 500+ Billion single-use plates, dishes, bowls, and cups going to landfill worldwide each year.
Cleaning up beaches, camp sites, BBQ sites and oceans

Case Study 3: Banning 'single-use' plastic & paper plates, dishes, bowls & cups!

An estimated 500 Billion ‘single-use’ (paper, waxed cardboard, polystyrene or plastic) plates, dishes, bowls & cups go to landfill every year.  Single-use plastic tableware is used for an average of 3 minutes before being discarded! Most of this ‘rubbish’ ends up in landfill sites and breaks down to micro-plastic particles which end up in the seas and oceans – in turn, these micro-plastics ultimately end up in the food chain.

World-wide, there is an Eco-friendly ‘war on waste’ campaign in progress! Countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK, Europe, Canada, and USA are banning single-use plastics for good.  The alternative? Just buy a reusable item and use it time and time again! Simple.

ClipCroc® Plates, dishes, bowls and Cups are 100% reusable and durable and designed to last many years. ClipCroc® is 100% recyclable at the end of their natural life. Every time you ‘CLIP’ ClipCroc® together; you’ve SAVED another single-use plate, dish, bowl or cup from landfill!

‘The EU & Australian parliaments ban single-use plastics from 2021’

The European & Australian parliaments announced a landslide victory with the ban of up to x10 of the biggest single-use plastic polluters by 2021. It was great to see that single-use plastic plates are second on the list! The list includes single-use plastic cutlery forks, knives, spoons and chopsticks; Single-use plastic plates; Plastic straws; Cotton bud sticks made of plastic; Plastic balloon sticks, Oxo-degradable plastics and food containers and expanded polystyrene cups.

  • “Parliament approved a new law banning single-use plastic items such as plates, cutlery, straws and cotton buds sticks.”
  • “This legislation will reduce the environmental damage bill by €22 billion – the estimated cost of plastic pollution in Europe until 2030.”
